WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- Incoming freshman Kate Burns qualified the pair for the World Rowing Junior Championships while competing at the Junior Worlds Trials on Thursday (June 29) at Princeton National Rowing Center in New Jersey.
Competing with native Texan Kaitlin Knifton, Burns and Knifton finished 8:12.56, earning them an opportunity to represent the U.S. on the global stage.
This will not be Burns' first international competition. Last summer, she helped the women's eight finish fifth at the World Rowing Junior Championships. She has also competed on the national level, finishing second in the junior double sculls at the Scholastic Nationals in both 2015 and 2016.Â
The 2017 World Rowing Junior Championships will be held from Aug. 2-6 in Vilnius, Lithuania.
An Ann Arbor native and graduate of Skyline High School, Burns will join the Wolverines this fall.
