
Wolverines Set to Face First Road Test of Season Against No. 21 Illini

The No. 3 University of Michigan women's gymnastics team will be tested on the road for the first time this season as they head to Champaign, Illinois, for a conference battle with No. 21 Illinois on Friday night at 7 p.m. CST.
MEET INFO
• The two top-25 teams will square off in Huff Hall in a matchup televised on Big Ten Network Plus.
• Michigan is 57-9-1 all-time against Illinois with wins 49 consecutive victories since 1990. Michigan won at home last season, 197.050-195.300, with the help of Nicole Artz' perfect 10.0 on floor. Michigan scored a 196.900 two years ago in Champaign.
• The Wolverines have two gymnasts from the state of Illinois, while the Fighting Illini have none. Representing the state from the Chicago area are junior Olivia Karas (Chicago) and sophomore Lexi Funk (Aurora).
• Illinois is ranked No. 21 in the country with a 3-0 record after winning a quad meet at Rutgers on Saturday to start the season. The Fighting Illini are top 10 on bars (6th) and beam (7th) after scoring a 195.100 to start the year.
LAST TIME OUT
• Michigan recorded the nation's highest score through two weeks of the season with a 197.550 to defeat Ohio State at home.
• The score moved U-M up to No. 3 in the country and put the Wolverines among the top seven in the country on all four events.
• Senior captain Paige Zaziski had a flat tire on the way to the meet but ended up winning the all-around with a 39.450. She tied for the win on bars with a 9.900.
• U-M scored 9.900 or better on eight of its routines, including three on floor.
• Junior captain Emma McLean was phenomenal, recording the two highest scores in the meet with a 9.950 on vault and a career-high 9.975 on floor to win both events. She is ranked tied for second nationally on vault and tied for fourth on floor with Karas, who had a 9.950 in the meet.
• Freshman Syd Townsend had a big meet with a 9.925 on vault and a 9.900 to tie for the bars victory.
• Senior Brianna Brown won beam with a 9.900 after her score was changed from a 9.875.
• The Wolverines drew a crowd of more than 3,000 for the second straight meet this season despite poor weather on both meet days.
