SEATTLE, Wash. -- The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team rallied to a 4-3Â victory over Washington on Saturday night (Jan. 20) in its first dual match of the season. After failing to secure the doubles point, the Wolverines' rallied to four straight-set singles victories.
Michigan was unable to earn the doubles point, as it dropped matches at Nos. 2 and 3. The senior pairing of No. 19 Alex Knight and Runhao Hua was the lone Wolverine duo to claim a win in doubles play, battling back from a 4-3 deficit and winning the tiebreak, 7-4.
In singles play, U-M won the first set on five out of six courts en route to picking up the come-from-behind win. Knight made quick work at top singles position, taking both sets, 6-2.
Freshman Mattias Siimar took No. 3 singles (6-3, 6-3) before junior Myles Schalet put U-M on the brink of the match victory with a 6-4, 6-4Â win at No. 4.
Michigan was able to earn the win in its first dual match of the season when senior Carter Lin earned a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles.
The remaining matches were played out despite Michigan securing the team win with Washington earning victories at the No. 2 and 6 positions.
With the win, Michigan improves to 4-2 all-time against the Huskies.
The Maize and Blue will conclude its West Coast swing at Boise State on Monday (Jan. 22), with the match set to begin at 11:30 a.m. MST.
