BOISE, Idaho -- The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team capped its West Coast trip with a 7-0 win over Boise State on Monday afternoon (Jan. 22) at Boise Racquet & Swim Club. The Wolverines claimed the doubles point and took all six singles matches in straight sets to earn their second win in a row to kick off the dual-match portion of the schedule.
Michigan took the doubles point after wins at Nos. 2 and 3. The duo of sophomore Connor Johnston and senior Davis Crocker made quick work at No. 2 doubles with a 6-2 win, then freshman brothers Kristofer Siimar and Mattias Siimar rallied from an early deficit to earn a 6-4 victory at No. 3.
Mattias Siimar earned his second win of the trip and provided U-M its second point of the afternoon with a 6-1, 6-0 singles win at No. 4, while No. 9-ranked Alex Knight also capped off the weekend at 2-0 with a straight-set 6-1, 6-1 triumph at the top singles spot. Crocker sealed the team win at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-1 win and earned Michigan its fourth point of the match.
The Wolverines also secured wins at Nos. 2, 3 and 5 to secure the 7-0 clean sweep over Boise State. Junior Myles Schalet (6-1, 6-3) and senior Carter Lin (6-2, 6-1) were victorious and capped off the western swing with 2-0 records to begin the season.
Michigan improves to 3-2 all-time against the Broncos and has won two straight after a 5-0 victory last season in Ann Arbor.
The Wolverines will travel to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, this weekend (Jan. 27-28) for the ITA Kick-off. U-M will take on South Carolina on Saturday (Jan. 27) and play either North Carolina or Drake the following day.
