WOLVERINE BITES
• The Wolverines boast an all-time Big Ten dual record of 467-202-17 since 1923-24 and have claimed three Big Ten dual titles since 2003-04. Last year, U-M went 4-5 in conference duals.
• Sunday's dual against Purdue could feature some potential rematches. U-M went 3-5 in matches against the Boilermakers at the season-opening Michigan State Open (Nov. 5) but was 2-1 in matches featuring two potential dual starters. Senior/junior Malik Amine earned a 6-4 overtime decision against Austin Nash at 149 pounds, and graduate student heavyweight Adam Coon cruised to an 11-3 major decision over Shawn Streck. Freshman Drew Mattin fell to Luke Welch, 6-4, in overtime in his second collegiate match at 125 pounds.
• Graduate student Adam Coon needs just one more win to reach 100 career wins -- and become the 36th Wolverine wrestler to achieve the feat in program history. Coon, who is 12-0 on the season, owns a 99-13 mark over his four seasons at Michigan.
• Four Wolverines remain unbeaten in dual-meet competition. In addition to Coon, graduate student Kevin Beazley and junior/sophomore Logan Massa are 2-0 in duals, while freshman Reece Hughes, who made his collegiate debut in the Oregon State dual (Dec. 10), is 1-0.
• Michigan scored bonus points in seven of 10 matches en route to a 48-0 shutout against Oregon State in its last dual outing (Dec. 10). Junior/sophomore Logan Massa has earned bonus points in eight of his nine wins this season, while graduate student Adam Coon has claimed bonus in eight of 12 wins, including a team-best six pins. Freshman Drew Mattin, junior/sophomore Myles Amine and fifth-year senior Domenic Abounader all own seven bonus wins.
• Senior/junior Alec Pantaleo has claimed each of his last six matches after starting the season with three straight losses -- albeit to three ranked opponents. Pantaleo earned Big Ten Co-Wrestler of the Week honors after capturing the 157-pound title at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational (Dec. 1-2). He earned decisive wins over two top-10 opponents to close out the CKLV tournament -- a 10-3 decision against Ohio State's sixth-ranked Micah Jordan in the championship bout and a 9-3 semifinal victory over Nebraska's fourth-ranked Tyler Berger.
• Coon also captured a CKLV crown with a 4-2 overtime win against Arizona State's fourth-ranked Tanner Hall in the heavyweight final and earned a 2-0 win against Stanford's 13th-ranked Nathan Butler in the semifinals -- on an escape and third-period rideout. He posted a 6-0 tournament record with four bonus wins. Coon also claimed the CKLV heavyweight title as a true freshman in 2013.
• Freshmen Drew Mattin posted a 6-2 record with four bonus wins, including three pins, to claim fourth place at 125 pounds in his CKLV debut. Mattin reeled off five straight wins in the wrestlebacks after a second-round defeat, including two wins over returning All-Americans in Arizona State's Ryan Millhof (fall, 5:00) and Stanford's Connor Schram (6-4 SV). His only losses came against the eventual champion, Utah Valley's Tyler LaMont, and 2017 NCAA finalist Ethan Lizak of Minnesota.
• Junior/sophomore Myles Amine earned four wins over ranked 174-pound opponents at the CKLV last weekend, including lopsided wins against Navy's No. 7 Jadaen Bernstein (10-1) and Northern Iowa's No. 8 Taylor Lujan (12-8) to claim third place for the second year in a row. In total, Amine owns six wins against ranked opposition this season, while all three of his losses have come against top-five opponents.
