WOLVERINE BITES
• The Wolverines are 2-0 in Big Ten dual competition after earning wins over Indiana (43-0, Jan. 5) and Purdue (25-14, Jan. 7) last weekend. Six schools are still unbeaten in conference competition.
• Michigan bookended the holiday break with dominant shutout wins against Oregon State (48-0) and Indiana (43-0) -- the latter being U-M's first shutout of a Big Ten opponent since a similar 39-0 win over Indiana in 1974. The last time Michigan boasted multiple shutouts in a season was 2000-01 when it blanked four opponents, including three in a row.
• Graduate student Adam Coon used a 21-6 technical fall over Indiana's Fletcher Miller to secure his 100th career win last Friday (Jan. 7). Coon, who improved to 102-13 over his four competitive seasons with two more wins on Sunday, is the 36th Wolverine wrestler to achieve the feat in program history. He is a perfect 15-0 on the season.
• Fifth-year senior Domenic Abounader is the next-closest Wolverine to the 100-win plateau with a career 82-25 record over his five seasons at Michigan. He is 13-2 in his final season.
• Four Wolverines remain unbeaten in dual-meet competition. In addition to Coon, junior/sophomore Stevan Micic owns a 5-0 dual mark, graduate student Kevin Beazley is 4-0 and junior/sophomore Logan Massa, who has missed the last four duals due to injury, is 2-0.
• Michigan has racked up bonus wins in several of its dual meets this season, including seven apiece against Oregon State and Indiana. Graduate student Adam Coon has earned bonus points in 11 of his 15 wins, including a team-best seven pins. Fifth-year senior Domenic Abounader has claimed bonus wins in 10 of 13 wins and junior/sophomores Stevan Micic and Logan Massa own eight bonus wins apiece.
• Senior/junior Alec Pantaleo has claimed each of his last nine matches after starting the season with three straight losses -- albeit to three ranked opponents. Pantaleo earned Big Ten Co-Wrestler of the Week honors after capturing the 157-pound title at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational (Dec. 1-2). He earned decisive wins over two top-10 opponents to close out the CKLV tournament -- a 10-3 decision against Ohio State's sixth-ranked Micah Jordan in the championship bout and a 9-3 semifinal victory over Nebraska's fourth-ranked Tyler Berger.
• Junior/sophomore Myles Amine earned four wins over ranked 174-pound opponents at the CKLV, including lopsided wins against Navy's No. 7 Jadaen Bernstein (10-1) and Northern Iowa's No. 8 Taylor Lujan (12-8) to claim third place for the second year in a row. In total, Amine owns six wins against ranked opposition this season, while all three of his losses have come against top-five opponents.
