IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team fell, 1-0, to Iowa as the Hawkeyes used a second half goal to lift them to a Big Ten Conference win over the Wolverines on Sunday (Oct. 14) at UI Soccer Complex.
U-M took seven shots on the afternoon with Reilly Martin taking three for the Wolverines, while four others had one shot each for Michigan. Sophomore Hillary Beall took the loss in net, making four saves and allowing one goal.
Devin Burns netted her second goal of the season in the win, with Natalie Winters earning the assist on the lone goal of the match and Claire Graves earned the win in goal.
Iowa led the way in the first half, putting three shots on net, while Michigan's best scoring chances came from Martin and Abby Kastroll, who each had shots blocked by the Hawkeye defense in the opening 45 minutes.
The Hawkeyes opened up the second half with back-to-back shots before capitalizing on their third shot when Burns put the ball in the back of the net off a pass from Winters in the 52nd minute.
The Wolverines tallied back-to-back shots when Martin and Taylor Timko each took shots that were blocked by the Iowa defense in the final 10 minutes of the match. Michigan was unable to find any further offense in the closing minutes.
Michigan will conclude its regular season with two matches at U-M Soccer Stadium. The Wolverines will first take on Maryland on Thursday (Oct. 18) at 7 p.m. before taking on rival Michigan State on Sunday (Oct. 21) at 2 p.m. The match against the Spartans is Senior Day, when the team will honor its six seniors.
