Freshman Maggie MacNeil had the swim of the night, nearly cracking 50 seconds to win the 100-yard butterfly in dominating fashion (50.09). That is a new school record, lowering the mark she set just last month in a practice suit (51.49), and remains the top time in the nation thus far this season.
MacNeil (50.66 on the butterfly leg) and senior Siobhán Haughey (47.27 on freestyle) helped the Big Ten win the 400-yard medley relay by just over three-and-a-half seconds (3:25.71). Those two swimmers, along with Beata Nelson (Wisconsin) and Lilly King (Indiana) destroyed the old pool record and were six-and-a-half seconds under this year's NCAA "A" cut.
Haughey and senior Catie DeLoof went 2-3 in the 100-yard freestyle. Haughey came up .13 seconds short of the win, but surpassed the NCAA "A" cut (47.09), while DeLoof came in 48.34.
Senior Yirong Bi was in the middle of a 1-2-3 finish for the Big Ten in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing second to Penn State's Ally McHugh by just .16 seconds (4:39.79).
Sophomore Christy Cutshaw was part of a 1-2-3-4 sweep on platform, finishing third (259.05).
Three swimmers helped the Big Ten win the 800-yard freestyle relay to close the night. Bi (1:46.54), DeLoof (1:43.81) and Haughey (1:42.88) -- along with Minnesota's Chantal Nack -- claimed first at 6:58.30, two seconds ahead of the ACC.
