ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The focus will shift to the upcoming Big Ten Indoor Championships for the national No. 12-ranked University of Michigan women's track and field team after it closed out its 2018 regular season and inaugural home schedule at the new world-class U-M Indoor Track Building with the Silverston Invitational on Friday (Feb. 16).
Micaela Degenero led the way for the Wolverines as the individual winner at 800 meters, leading a Michigan squad -- absent many of its top athletes who were resting in preparation for Big Tens next Friday and Saturday (Feb. 23-24) in Geneva, Ohio -- that accumulated 11 total top-five finishes and six new career bests on the day.
Michigan competed against the likes of regional NCAA Division I opponents Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Detroit Mercy, Eastern Michigan, Kent State and Oakland, as well as other teams from the D-II, D-III and NAIA levels.
Only one regular-season entry remains for Michigan, as four Wolverines -- Haley Meier, Jade Harrison, Hannah Meier and Gina Sereno -- will be in pursuit of a distance medley relay performance at Notre Dame on Saturday that would clinch them an NCAA-best 16th consecutive trip to the national championships. The team runs at 11:45 a.m.
Degenero came away with Michigan's only win of the day at the Silverston, surging on the last of four laps around the U-M Indoor Track Building's hydraulic banked 200-meter track to pull away for the win at 800 meters in 2:11.82.

The mark was good for fourth in the competition and bolstered her position as the No. 3 Michigan woman in the event all-time.
