The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan men's basketball team (21-7, 10-5 B1G) closes its Big Ten regular season on the road starting with a visit to State College, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday (Feb. 18) against Penn State (19-9, 9-6 Big Ten) at the Bryce Jordan Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the game broadcast on Big Ten Network.
THE SERIES WITH PENN STATE
• Wednesday's game marks the 47th all-time meeting between Michigan and Penn State.
• U-M leads in the all-time series with the Nittany Lions, 34-12, and has won six straight in the series.
• The Maize and Blue is 12-8 all-time in games played in Happy Valley, winning four of the last five games.
• Michigan is playing at the Bryce Jordan Center for the first time in just over three years -- three years, one month and 15 days to be exact. One reason is due to the Nittany Lions electing to host the Wolverines at MSG (Jan. 30, 2016) as part of a basketball/hockey doubleheader.
• The last time U-M played in the Bryce Jordan Center was Jan. 5, 2015, a 73-64 win. Caris LeVert (18 points) and Zak Irvin (17 points, nine rebounds) led the Wolverines to the win.
• Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman is the only current Wolverine to play at Penn State. In his home-state appearance, he had three points and an assist in six minutes in that 2015 game.
• U-M head coach John Beilein is 14-4 all-time against Penn State.
A LITTLE ABOUT THE NITTANY LIONS
• Penn State brings a 19-10 overall record into Wednesday's contest, including a 9-7 mark in Big Ten play and a 14-3 home record. PSU is coming off a 76-73 loss at Purdue, which snapped a four-game winning streak.
• The Nittany Lions have five players scoring in double figures, led by Tony Carr at 19.6 points per game. Lamar Stevens (15.1 ppg), Mike Watkins (12.5 ppg), Josh Reaves (10.7 ppg) and Shep Garner (10.6 ppg) are also scoring in double figures for Penn State.
• Watkins ranks third in the country with a 69.2 field-goal percentage (146-of-211) this season and also leads Penn State in rebounding with 9.2 boards per game, second-best in the Big Ten.
• Penn State leads the Big Ten with 7.6 steals per game with Reaves leading the team with 2.2 per game.
MAIZE AND BLUE THINGS
• U-M ranks second in the nation in fewest turnovers per game with 9.24. Virginia leads the nation at 8.96 (233 in 26 games).
• Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman leads the nation with a 6.20 assist-to-turnover ratio (93 assists, 15 TOs), while Zavier Simpson is 11th at 3.12 (106 assists, 34 TOs).
• Overall, U-M is fifth in the nation and atop the Big Ten with a 1.62 ratio.
• With five straight double-figure games, Moritz Wagner has taken over the team scoring lead (14.5 ppg). He also leads in rebounding with 7.3 per game.
• U-M is making 9.1 three-pointers per game, which is second in the conference. Duncan Robinson leads the team with 56, with Abdur-Rahkman second (career-best 46) and Wagner third (43) -- the most for any player nationally 6-foot-11 or taller.
• Last time out, Michigan took down #8/9 Ohio State, 74-62, to give the Wolverines two top-10 wins this season, the first time since the 2013-14 season.
QUICK HITTERS FOR THIS SEASON
• Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman has played in 132 career games, tied for eighth all-time at U-M.
• Abdur-Rahkman is the 52nd Wolverine to reach 1,000 career points (1,130, 41st).
• Abdur-Rahkman is the 23rd Wolverine to reach 100 career starts (104, T-17th).
• Abdur-Rahkman has set single-season career bests for FGA (274), 3FG (46), 3FGA (127), FT (67), FTA (85), rebounds (111), assists (93), points (345) and points per game (11.9) -- first season in double figures.
• Duncan Robinson is the 68th Wolverine to play 100 career games (103, T-58th).
• Robinson leads U-M with 56 three-pointers, and his 215 career treys at U-M put him sixth all-time.
• Robinson's 509 long-range attempts are ninth all-time, while his 42.23 percent shooting from beyond the arc ranks him eighth.
• Michigan has held eight opponents to 55 points or fewer this season.
• U-M has had 10 turnovers or fewer in 21 games, with a season-low five vs. Northwestern (Jan. 29).
• U-M has made at least eight three-pointers in 21 games with 13 games of 10 or more.
HOW ABOUT THESE NUMBERS
• With a road win over then No. 4 Michigan State (82-72) and a victory at Crisler Center over No. 8/9 Ohio State (74-62), Michigan posted two top-10 wins for the first time since the Wolverines knocked off three straight during the 2013-14 season -- at No. 3 Wisconsin (77-70), No. 10 Iowa (75-67) and at No. 3 MSU (75-67).
• U-M is 15-1 at home this season. The lone loss was a one-point setback against then No. 5/7 Purdue (Jan. 9), which sank a late free throw to escape with the win.
• Michigan's 82-72 win at then No. 4 Michigan State is the Spartans' lone loss at the Breslin Center (15-1). The Spartans are currently No. 1 is the USA Today Coaches poll and No. 2 in the Associated Press poll. The victory was just U-M's third at the Breslin Center since 1998.
• U-M's 83-73 victory at Wisconsin was just the second win in the Kohl Center since 2000 (15 games); it was the Wolverines third straight win over the Badgers.
• Michigan's regular-season sweep of Iowa is the first since 2011 and snapped a five-game losing streak.
• The 74-62 victory over Ohio State gave U-M its 22nd victory of the season and adds to John Beilein's eighth 20-win season in his 11 seasons. An eighth 20-win season under Beilein is more than a quarter of U-M's 29 total 20-win campaigns in 102 years of playing basketball.
• Additionally, with the win over Ohio State, U-M has hit double-digit wins in Big Ten play with 11. It helps Beilein post a third straight season with 10-plus conference wins as well as six of the last seven seasons. Beilein's 109 career Big Ten victories list him 19th all-time among conference coaches.
