The No. 6 University of Michigan women's gymnastics team will be in Toledo this Friday (Feb. 23) for one of five Elevate the Stage meets in 2018. The Wolverines will join No. 12 Denver, No. 37 Utah State and No. 38 Bowling Green at the Sea Gate Centre for a 7 p.m. start.
MEET INFO
• Elevate the Stage is a new event that allows collegiate gymnastics programs a chance to compete on podium before the postseason. In 2018, there are four locations. The Toledo, Ohio, meet at the Sea Gate Centre will be the second of four that feature collegiate meets.
• Michigan and Denver have met eight times, with the last two coming in the 2007 and 2008 NCAA Semifinals. U-M leads the series, 6-2, with a 5-0 regular-season record under head coach Bev Plocki.
• The Wolverines are 2-2 against Utah State all-time. The last meeting came on March 15, 1997, a Michigan home victory.
• U-M also leads the series with Bowling Green, 7-3. The Wolverines have won seven straight since 1983. The two last faced each other in 2010. Former U-M gymnast India McPeak is a senior for the Falcons who competes on beam and floor.
• After seven weekends of action, Michigan is 8-1 and ranked No. 6 in the country. The Wolverines have been ranked as high as No. 3.
• U-M has been at its best on beam; the Wolverines are tied for fourth nationally in the event, averaging 49.207. U-M is No. 7 on both vault and bars and 20th on floor.
• Junior captain Emma McLean is ranked in the top 10 on floor. She is averaging a 9.925 on the event this year to rank tied for fifth in the country. She also ranks T-33rd on vault and T-13th on beam.
• Senior Brianna Brown is having a great season. She ranks 24th in the all-around and is tied for 17th on bars.
• Senior captain Paige Zaziski climbed into the rankings on both vault (47) and beam (T-44) this week.
• Michigan also has Polina Shchennikova (T-39 on bars and T-42 on beam) and Syd Townsend (T-39 on bars) in the rankings.
