CHULA VISTA, Calif. -- University of Michigan freshman Halle O'Neill was added to the 2018 USA Field Hockey Under-21 Women's National Team after an individual tryout over the weekend at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center. O'Neill, who missed the initial trial in December due to injury, was granted an individual opportunity in conjunction with the team's weekend training camp, held from last Thursday through Monday (Feb. 1-5).
O'Neill appeared in all 24 games, starting 23 in the backfield, during an outstanding freshman campaign for the Wolverines last fall. She posted four goals, including markers against No. 15 Maryland and No. 7 Louisville, and one assist. She also contributed to a defensive unit that allowed just 0.83 goals per game and 7.45 shots per game, and led the nation with 16 shutouts.
The U-21 squad will participate in three more training camps through the spring before embarking on a week-long tour of Argentina in June. O'Neill has previous experience with the U.S. teams and international play. She was a member of the Under-19 Indoor National Team (2016-17) and participated in the Netherlands with her PA Mavericks club.
O'Neill is the 18th Wolverine player to earn U.S. Under-21 Team selection.
