ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team (22-9) earned a No. 7 seed as an at-large team and will face No. 10 seed Northern Colorado in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday (March 16) at Baylor's Ferrell Center. Tip is set for 4 p.m. CDT and the game can be seen live on ESPN2.
• For the first time since the 2012-13 season, U-M has punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament. U-M is making its seventh appearance in the NCAA Tournament in this year's event. U-M is 3-6 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and has advanced to the second round in 1990, 2001 and 2013. Michigan's No. 7 seed is the best seed in program history after it received a No. 8 seed three times.
•Head coach Kim Barnes Arico is making her sixth appearance in the NCAA Tournament, with the first four berths coming at St. John's. Barnes Arico is 6-5 in the NCAA Tournament, with her teams winning at least one game in all five of her prior appearances. She is 1-1 in the NCAA Tournament as the Michigan head coach as the Wolverines knocked off No. 9 seed Villanova, 60-52, in the 2013 Tournament before U-M lost to top-seeded Stanford in the second round. She joins Sue Guevara, who is the head coach at Central Michigan, as the only coaches in program history with multiple NCAA appearances at the helm at Michigan.
• This is the first NCAA Tournament action for every player on Michigan's roster. Seniors Jillian Dunston and Katelynn Flaherty have the most postseason experience, each playing in 16 WNIT games over the past three seasons.
• Michigan is returning to Texas for the first round of the NCAA Tournament, which will mark the first action in the Lone Star State for the Maize and Blue since playing at Texas A&M on Nov. 29, 2007.
• Michigan is one of six Big Ten schools to make the NCAA Tournament, joining No. 3 seed Ohio State, No. 5 Maryland, No. 6 Iowa, No. 10 seeds Minnesota (Spokane Regional) and Nebraska (Kansas City Regional). It is the most selections for the Big Ten since seven teams were selected during the 2014-15 season. The Big Ten ended the regular season as the No. 3-rated RPI conference in the country.
• Senior Katelynn Flaherty has tied Kate Thompson's single-season record for three-pointers with 110 that was set in 2012-13. She can pass Thompson with one more triple. Flaherty is the only Wolverine in school history -- man or woman -- to have three seasons with at least 100 three-pointers. She is the second player in NCAA Division I women's basketball history with 400 career triples (402), joining Ohio State's Kelsey Mitchell (490) on the list.
• The Bears (26-6) have won 13 straight entering the NCAA Tournament, and are winners the Big Sky championship with a 91-69 victory over Idaho in the final game. UNC features a pair of double-figure scorers in Savannah Smith (18.5 ppg) and Savannah Scott (16.8 ppg). The Bears are averaging 70.5 points per game on 44.7 percent shooting while they allow 63.5 points per game on 41.8 percent shooting. It will be the first meeting between the two teams.
• The winner of Friday's contest will face either No. 2 seed Baylor or No. 15 seed Grambling on Sunday (March 18). U-M and Baylor have never played each other. Michigan holds a 1-0 series lead on Grambling after an 82-67 win on Nov. 24, 1990.
