
Big Five Meet to End U-M's Regular Season

The No. 7 University of Michigan women's gymnastics team will head to Piscataway, New Jersey, this Saturday (Mar. 17) for the Big Five Meet. The Wolverines are the top seed and will square off against host Rutgers, Iowa, No. 25 Penn State and No. 22 Minnesota with the meet scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
MEET INFO
• The Wolverines will have the chance to win the Big Ten regular-season title at the Big Five Meet. U-M is currently second in the Big Ten Standings with a 4-1 record. The Wolverines' only Big Ten loss was against No. 11 Nebraska, which is currently in first place with a 5-0 record and will compete in the East Lansing Big Five Meet.
• Michigan is the top seed for the Rutgers Big Five Meet and will start on vault. The Wolverines' rotation order will be vault, uneven bars, balance beam, bye, floor exercise.
• U-M has won the Big Five Meet two of the last three years. In 2017, the Wolverines scored their highest road score of the regular season (197.150) to win the Big Five Meet and capture a share of the regular-season Big Ten championship.
• The Big Five Meet will determine positioning for the Big Ten Championships, which will be held the following week in Champaign, Illinois. The top three teams will advance to the night session of the Big Ten Championships while the bottom two will compete in the afternoon session.
• This week's Regional Qualifying Score rankings have Michigan ranked No. 7 in the nation. Michigan has been ranked in the top 10 in 14 consecutive polls.
• With a 196.945, Michigan has the highest team RQS in the Big Ten. U-M is followed by Nebraska (196.660) and Minnesota (196.160).
• U-M has been at its best on beam with a ranking of tied for sixth nationally, an RQS of 49.335. U-M is top 10 on all four events.
• Junior captain Emma McLean is highly ranked on both vault and floor. She is tied for 16th on vault with a RQS of 9.890 and 11th on floor with a RQS of 9.925.
• Senior captain Paige Zaziski shot up the rankings with the RQS and is T-18th in the all-around, T-24th on vault, T-20th on bars and T-48th on beam.
• Senior Brianna Brown ranks 32nd in the all-around, T-32nd on bars and T-41st on beam.
• Michigan also has Lexi Funk (T-44th on floor) and Syd Townsend (T-36th on vault) in the rankings.
LAST TIME OUT
• Michigan defeated No. 4 Utah in front of a record crowd of 7,212 at Crisler Center on Senior Day.
• U-M honored its four seniors, Brown, Cailee Hills, Lauren Marinez and Zaziski following the meet.
• McLean tied for the win on floor with a 9.950 and finished second on vault with a 9.900.
• Zaziski won bars with a 9.950, matched her career high of 9.900 on floor and was second in the all-around with a 39.475.
• Brown recorded a 9.925 on bars in her final home meet.
• Freshman Lauren Farley led Michigan with a 9.900 on beam and Funk contributed a 9.900 on floor.
