Wolverines to Square Off Against Baylor in NCAA Second Round

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team (23-9) advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and will face No. 2-ranked Baylor (32-1) on Sunday (March 18) at the Ferrell Center. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m. CT and the game can be seen on ESPN2 and WatchESPN.

• Junior Hallie Thome and senior Katelynn Flaherty became the second teammates in program history to each score 20 points in an NCAA Tournament game after Thome went for 24 and Flaherty chipped in 20 against Northern Colorado (March 16). It was the 10th time this season that they each scored 20 points in the same game. U-M is 8-2 when Flaherty and Thome each reach 20 points.

• Michigan advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a 75-61 win over Northern Colorado in the first round on Friday (March 16). U-M used a 20-4 run over the first and second quarters to take control and led by as many as 21 points in the contest. Michigan forced 15 first-half turnovers and led by double figures the entire second half. Hallie Thome led the way with 24 points, Katelynn Flaherty went for 20, Nicole Munger had eight points and Kayla Robbins chipped in eight off the bench. Michigan shot 57.1 percent (28-for-49) from the floor, outscoring the Bears, 46-26, in the paint.

• The Lady Bears (32-1) have not lost since Nov. 18, reeling off 29 straight after dominating Grambling, 96-46, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday (March 16). Baylor is led by the inside duo of Kalani Brown (20.2 ppg, 10.3 rpg) and Lauren Cox (15.2 ppg, 9.6 rpg), and Dekeiya Cohen chips in 12.2 points per game. The Lady Bears are averaging 86.9 points per game on 51.2 percent shooting while holding opponents to 55.6 points per contest on 31.9 percent shooting. It is the first meeting between the two teams.

• The winner of Sunday's contest will advance to the regional round in Lexington, Kentucky, to face the winner of Tennessee/Oregon State on March 23.

• Michigan is at 23 wins on the season, which marks the seventh straight 20-win campaign and 10th overall for the Wolverines. U-M's current streak of seven straight 20-win seasons -- six coming under head coach Kim Barnes Arico -- is the longest in school history. Prior to this current run that started in 2011-12, Michigan had just three 20-win seasons in program history. The senior class of Jillian Dunston and Katelynn Flaherty is now the winningest class in program history with 92 wins. Michigan's 23 wins stand alone in second place for single-season victories. U-M set the standard last season with 28 wins en route to the WNIT Championship.
