U-M Gets Back to Winning Ways with Victory over Indiana

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 11-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team won a tightly contested 4-2 match against the visiting Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday (March 31). The win gives the Wolverines a 3-1 record in Big Ten Conference play.
U-M dropped the doubles point in a highly competitive set of matches. The duo of junior Myles Schalet and sophomore Connor Johnston won its match, 6-2, but the remaining two matches went to the Hoosiers. The Wolverine tandem of seniors Runhao Hua and Carter Lin suffered a 6-4 loss, and senior Alex Knight and freshman Mattias Siimar lost, 7-6, in what was a thrilling tiebreaker (7-5).
Michigan righted the ship in singles as the intensity in the Varsity Tennis Center increased. Schalet was the first Wolverine to secure a victory, but Siimar and Knight were not far behind. Schalet's victory was by a score of 6-1, 6-3, while M. Siimar won 6-3, 6-3, and Knight was victorious 6-3, 6-2.
Following Davis Crocker's 6-4, 6-3 loss, U-M needed a victory from either Lin or Hua to secure the match. Lin bounced back from a first-set setback to take the second set and held a 2-1 lead in the third, but Hua beat him to the punch, winning his match 7-6 (5), 6-0.
The Wolverines will have an opportunity tomorrow (Sunday, April 1) to start a new streak of wins with two more matches at the Varsity Tennis Center. U-M will face Big Ten opponent Purdue at noon before concluding the busy weekend with Cleveland State at 5 p.m.
