ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 11-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team clinched the doubles point and earned five straight-sets wins in singles play to earn a 6-1 win over Purdue on Sunday afternoon at the Varsity Tennis Center.
The Wolverines earned the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2. The No. 9-ranked duo of seniors Alex Knight and Runhao Hua teamed up for a 6-3 win at the one spot, while junior Myles Schalet and sophomore Connor Johnston clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 triumph at No. 2. Nick Beaty and Kristofer Siimar held a 5-4 advantage on the remaining court before the clinching point was secured.
Michigan continued its dominance in singles play, where it earned five victories in straight sets. Hua made quick work at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-1 win, while classmate Davis Crocker took No. 6 with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph. Schalet also earned a straight set win, closing out his match with an ace to claim a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 3.
The Maize and Blue also picked up wins from Mattias Siimar (6-3, 7-5) and Knight (7-5, 7-5) to earn its second consecutive B1G victory in as many days.
The Wolverines will be back in action at 5 p.m. today (Sunday, April 1) when they host Cleveland State to wrap up the weekend trifecta at the Varsity Tennis Center.
