ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 11-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team earned its third win of the weekend and second of the day when it defeated Cleveland State University, 6-1, Sunday evening at the Varsity Tennis Center.
The Maize and Blue eased to the doubles point after picking up wins at Nos. 1 and 3. The ninth-ranked combo of seniors Alex Knight and Runhao Hua earned its 15th win of the year with a 6-0 victory at the top doubles spot. Sophomore Nick Beaty and freshman Kristofer Siimar clinched the doubles point for the hosts, winning 6-2 at the No. 3 spot.
Michigan earned straight-sets victories at No. 4. Sophomore Connor Johnston made quick work in the six spot, earning a 6-2, 6-0 win to pick up his team-leading third consecutive victory in singles play. Fellow classmate Beaty earned his second singles win of the campaign after sealing No. 5 whit scores of 6-3, 6-1.
Senior Carter Lin improved to 16-7 overall and 11-2 in dual match play, winning in straight sets in the two spot (6-3, 6-3). Fellow senior Davis Crocker earned a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 to push the lead 5-0 in favor of the Wolverines.
The Wolverines earned their final point when freshman Mattias Siimar claimed his first win while playing in the No. 1 spot and 19th victory of the year, 7-6 (4), 6-4.
Michigan will return to conference play next Saturday (April 7) when it travels to Illinois. The match is scheduled for noon CDT.
