
Eight Wolverines Qualify for Individual Event Finals

» The Wolverines qualified eight gymnasts on 16 routines, earning spots in the individual event finals portion of Session III of the 2018 NCAA Championships.

CHICAGO -- The University of Michigan men's gymnastics team qualified eight gymnasts on 16 routines, and placed fourth as a team with a score of 400.590 on Friday (April 20) at the NCAA Qualifier held at UIC Pavilion in Chicago.
In all, freshman Cameron Bock will take part in the all-around competition after placing second with an 80.765. Freshman Jacob Moore (pommel horse, floor exercise), senior Dmitri Belanovski (still rings, high bar), junior Marty Strech (still rings, vault) all qualified on a pair of events. Junior Emyre Cole (floor exercise), sophomore Mack Lasker (pommel horse), junior Ryan Dunning (still rings) and senior Alec Krystek (floor exercise) all qualified on one event apiece.
Dunning scored a 13.900 on still rings to win the event, while Bock added an event title on high bar with a 13.966. Moore took second on floor exercise, while Cole tied for third on floor with a 14.033.
As a team, U-M struggled to a 400.590 team score, its second-lowest team mark of the season.
Michigan rolled the dice in its rotation selection, opening with parallel bars. As a whole, the squad finished with a season-low 61.465 on the event, led by a 13.866 from Bock.
Sitting in last after the first rotation, U-M moved to high bar in the second rotation and made up ground, breaking the 68-plateau for the second time on the season with a 68.264. Once again, Bock led U-M with a 13.966, while Belanovski marked a 13.833 with a stuck dismount.
On floor exercise, the Maize and Blue was paced by a stellar 14.200 from Moore, while Cole marked a 14.033. Michigan totaled a 68.665 in all and sat in fourth-place by just over a point heading into pommel horse.
With pommel horse coming in rotation four, the Wolverines turned in their second-lowest score of the campaign with a 63.765, with Moore (13.133) and Lasker (13.266) breaking the 13-line.
On still rings, U-M compiled a 67.699, highlighted by Dunning's 13.900, and Belanovski's 13.600 to earn spots in individual event finals.
In the final rotation on vault, U-M scored a 70.732. Strech's 14.333 on the table was U-M's top score, with 2017 NCAA vault All-American's Cole (14.200) and two-time defending NCAA Champion Anthony McCallum (14.000) both failing to qualify.

Michigan closed out its 2018 team campaign with a 15-9 overall record. The contingent that qualified for the individual event finals of Session III of the NCAA Championship will compete on Saturday (April 21) at 7 p.m. CDT. All events will be streamed live via NCAA.com.
