Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week -- Sophomore thrower Andrew Liskowitz was rewarded for his school-record weekend in the shot put with his first career Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week honor. Liskowitz threw 20.28m (66 feet, 6.5 inches) to win the National Relay Championships shot put competition, surpassing by nearly a meter the previous school record of 19.39m (63-7.5) set by Cody Riffle at the 2015 Big Ten Championships and moving to No. 3 nationally in the event for 2018. His record throw was one of three on the day that exceeded the previous Michigan standard, giving him an average distance of 19.68m for his four throws. This marks his first career Big Ten Athlete of the Week honor. » Big Ten Release
Joe Ellis (Feb. 7)
Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week -- For the second time this year, and the third time in his career, Joe Ellis has been named Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week. Ellis earned his second weekly honor in as many competitions following a head-to-head victory over national weight-throw leader Josh Davis of North Carolina State at the Power Five Invitational. With a throw of 22.57m (74 feet, 0.75 inches) and then 22.71m (74-6.25), he twice established new career bests and bolstered his standing at No. 2 in the nation. With four throws of 22 meters or farther on the day to go along with three in his season opener, he has now logged more 22-meter attempts than the rest of the conference combined. » Big Ten Release
Joe Ellis (Jan. 24)
Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week -- All it took was one weekend of competition for Joe Ellis to earn Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week honors. The junior All-America weight thrower earned the award for the second time in his career after heaving a career-best 22.55m (73-11.75) to win the event at the Simmons-Harvey Quad over teammate Grant Cartwright. The mark is the best in the Big Ten this year, is No. 2 nationally, and improves his standing as the No. 2 man in program history behind Cartwright. In addition to his winning throw, he also notched two other 22-meter efforts to make him one of just two men in the nation with multiple 22-meter marks. » Big Ten Release
