• Brewer Receives Top Honors, U-M Puts Four on All-Big Ten Teams
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Eight members of the University of Michigan rowing program collected Scholar-Athlete honors from the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA), the organization announced on Tuesday (June 5).
Michigan's honorees are: Perry Bower (biopsychology, cognition and neuroscience), Kendall Brewer (sociology), Flick Cain (sociology), Victoria Glunt (industrial and operations engineering), Alexis Jones (biochemistry), Rae Oleshansky (sociology), Kathleen Peng (nursing) and Erika Yasuda (movement science).
To earn CRCA Scholar-Athlete distinction a student must be in her second, third or fourth year of eligibility, have a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or higher for her career, and compete in a minimum of 75 percent of the current spring races.
The CRCA also announced Tuesday a change in its process for All-America consideration. The organization's all-conference award list will take the place of the previously awarded All-Region honors, which served as the short list from which All-Americans were selected. Michigan's four all-conference selections match those named earlier by the Big Ten: senior co-captain Kendall Brewer, junior co-captain Meghan Gutknecht (first team), seniors Kalia Krichko and Flick Cain (second team).
All four of this year's honorees were part of the 1V8 boat which finished 10th at the NCAA Championships this spring. Brewer rowed in the third seat with Gutknecht in the second seat, and Krichko rowed stroke with Cain in bow seat. Those four athletes are now eligible for All-America selection later this month.
