GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- The No. 15-ranked University of Michigan rowing team is in Gainesville, Ga., this week in preparation for the upcoming (May 29-June 1) NCAA Championship.
Following U-M's fourth-place team finish at the Big Ten Championships (May 15-17), the program received an at-large selection to compete at this weekend's championship regatta. The three-day format will consist of heats on Friday, semifinals on Saturday and finals on Sunday.
Event Format
The NCAA rowing team champion is determined by total points earned in three different boat classes (1V8, 2V8, 1V4). Each boat class also competes for a national title. The top three finishing boats in each of Friday's heats will advance to A/B semifinals; all other boats will move on to C/D semifinals. Top-three finishes in those semifinal races will yield a spot in Sunday's (June 1) Grand Final (NCAA places 1-6), while lower-finishing semifinal boats will compete in the Petite Final (places 7-12). Those boats that do not reach A/B semifinals will compete in C (NCAA places 13-18) and D Finals (places 19-22).

Notes
• The NCAA Championships will be held at Lake Lanier Olympic Park in Gainesville, Ga., for the third time overall and first since 2001. That season was U-M's first trip to the NCAA podium, as the Wolverines finished in second place, five points behind Washington.
• All three days of the NCAA Championships will be streamed live for free on NCAA.com, and all race results can be found via Regatta Timing.
• The Michigan 1V8 will race against Washington, Tennessee, Syracuse and Texas in the first of Friday's heats. U-M has raced all of these teams this season, competing against the Huskies at the Big Ten Invitational (April 19) and Big Ten Championships; Syracuse at the Wolverine Double Dual (April 25); Texas at home (April 11), and Tennessee in a non-scoring preseason scrimmage (March 14).
• In the fourth heat, the U-M second eight will race against Massachusetts, Rutgers, Princeton, Washington and Rhode Island. The Wolverines competed against Rutgers at the Big Ten Invitational and Big Ten Championships alongside the Huskies, and also competed against Princeton at the Wolverine Double Dual.
• The 1V4 will compete with Boston, Cal, Texas and Yale in the second heat. Other than the Longhorns, it will be the boat's first time this season competing against this field of teams.
• Michigan has placed among the top 12 nationally for 13 straight years and is seeking its third top-10 finish in the last five years.
• Last spring at the 2025 NCAA Championships regatta, Michigan's championship boats combined to finish 11th overall (second best in the Big Ten) after qualifying for three petite finals and earning 74 points.
• Twelve athletes from the 2025 NCAA Championships lineup are returning to race for the Wolverines: coxswains Talia Daft, Isabela Pimentel and Logan Roeder, as well as rowers Zara Bongiorno, Autumn Crowe, Sinéad Erasmus, Gretel Ham, Madeleine Lauriault, Deanna Macolino, Leija Murphy, Jana Peachey and Madeson Scott.
• Following its fourth-place team finish at the Big Ten Championships (May 15-17), three Michigan athletes received All-Big Ten honors: Roeder (first team), Peachey (second team) and Lauriault (second team). Maddy Matos was the team's sportsmanship award honoree.
