POZNAN, Poland -- Rising senior Meghan Gutknecht and the straight four (4-) were back in action at the Under-23 World Championships on Friday (July 27), competing for Team USA at Lake Malta in central Poland.
Gutknecht and crew placed fourth in their heats on Thursday, moving to repechages this morning with a Finals bid on the line. In the faster of two heats, the Americans raced against Belarus, Great Britain and Greece, finishing fourth in 7:24.870 and earning a place in the B Final.
The Belarussians won the heat in 7:05.870 with the Brits in second (7:11.020) and the Greeks in third (7:13.550). With only two spots available to advance to the A Final, it was a tightly-contested race, but the Team USA representatives still have a chance to finish the championships weekend with a strong showing in Sunday morning's B Final.
