
Gutknecht, Straight Four Finishes 10th in Poland

POZNAN, Poland -- Rising senior Meghan Gutknecht and the American straight four (4-) completed their Under-23 World Championships experience on Sunday (July 29), finishing fourth in the B Final (10th overall) while competing at Lake Malta in central Poland.
Gutknecht and crew began the week by placing fourth in their heats on Thursday before moving to repechages Friday morning. In the faster of two heats, the Americans finished fourth in 7:24.870 and earned a place in today's B Final.
In this morning's race, the U.S. competed against Denmark, Germany, Greece and Italy. The Danes led wire-to-wire to take the first place (seventh overall) in 6:33.96 and the Greeks' final 500-meter push was enough to move them into second position. The Italians took third in 6:41.44 while the Americans finished behind them in 6:47.73.
In the A Final for this event, Russia won gold in 6:31.490 with Romania (6:34.220) in silver and China (6:35.430) winning the bronze.
