ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan ice hockey team announced Tuesday (Aug. 14) that longtime athletic trainer Rick Bancroft has been elevated to director of hockey operations and Brian Brewster will join the Wolverines as head athletic trainer for the upcoming 2018-19 season.
Entering his 28th season at Michigan, Bancroft will now serve as director of hockey operations, after previously working as the head athletic trainer with U-M hockey since 1991. He also holds multiple certifications within the athletic training field and has had his work published in a number of athletic training publications.
Brewster comes to Ann Arbor after previously serving as assistant athletic director of sports medicine and performance at Michigan Tech University where he oversaw athletic training and performance for 14 varsity sports, while serving as the head clinician for the ice hockey team. Prior to his role with the Huskies, Brewster served as coordinator of sports medicine/athletic trainer at Portage Health Sports Medicine Institute in Houghton, Michigan, supervising athletic training services at Michigan Tech, Finlandia University and five local high schools.
Brewster earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with a concentration in athletic training from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and a Master of Arts in Teaching for Physical Education from Hastings College.
