Returning starters on defense include captains Bush (10) and Kinnel (23) as well as Hill (24).
• The Wolverines return 20 starters which is tied for the third highest total of any FBS program.
• The 17 position starters - offense and defense - ranks fourth nationally behind Florida (19), Michigan State (19) and Utah State (18).
• U-M has nine returning starters on defense after having just one a year ago: LB Devin Bush, DE Rashan Gary, CB Lavert Hill, LB Khaleke Hudson, S Tyree Kinnel, CB David Long, S Josh Metellus, DT Bryan Mone, DT Aubrey Solomon, DE Chase Winovich.
• Michigan returns eight starters on offense: LG Ben Bredeson, RT Juwann Bushell-Beatty, TE Zach Gentry, RB Karan Higdon, TE Sean McKeon, RG Michael Onwenu, WR Donovan Peoples-Jones, QB Brandon Peters, RG Cesar Ruiz.
• The Wolverines have three returning specialist starters: long snapper Camaron Cheeseman, kicker Quinn Nordin and punter Brad Robbins.
• U-M has players from 29 different states and two different countries this season, including 50 players from the state of Michigan, 13 student-athletes from the neighboring state of Ohio, 13 from Florida, and 10 from New Jersey.

Wolverines and Irish
• Michigan and Notre Dame will meet on the gridiron for the 43rd time on Saturday, Sept. 1, at Notre Dame Stadium. The Wolverines hold a 24-17-1 advantage in the all-time series, but are 9-10-1 in South Bend.
• Michigan looks to end a two-game losing streak at Notre Dame when the rivals meet to open the 2018 season. Notre Dame has claimed victory in five of the last six games contested in South Bend, with Michigan winning a 47-21 affair in 2006.
• This will be the eighth time that the two rivals clash in primetime. Notre Dame holds a 5-2 advantage in night games, winning all five at Notre Dame Stadium while losing both contests at Michigan Stadium.
Season Openers
• The Wolverines have compiled a 113-22-3 record in season openers.
• U-M has won eight of its last 11 season openers and 43 of its last 55 games dating back to the 1963 season (43-11-1).
• Head coach Jim Harbaugh has posted a 2-1 mark in season openers at Michigan; lost a 24-17 game at Utah in 2015 and claimed victories against Hawaii (63-3) in 2016 and Florida (33-17) in 2017.
