
Wolverines Earn Seventh Seed for East & West Match Play Challenge

» With team totals of 301 and 290, Michigan posted a 591 stroke-play qualifying score to earned the seventh seed for the East & West Match Play Challenge at Radrick Farms Golf Course.
» U-M will face Texas A&M in the opening round of match play 10:30 a.m. off the 10th tee. The Wolverines will then play either the winner/loser of the Oregon/Wisconsin match.
» Ashley Kim led U-M is stroke play, tying for eighth with a 145 (73-72, +1) tally.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Highlighted by sophomore Ashley Kim's tie for eighth place individually, the University of Michigan women's golf team tallied a 36-hole stroke play qualifying score of 591 Sunday (Sept. 16) to earn the seventh seed at the East & West Match Play Challenge being played at Radrick Farms Golf Course.
The Wolverines move to the consolation team bracket and will face Texas A&M on Monday morning at 10:03 a.m. off the 10th tee. Win or lose, the Maize and Blue will face either Oregon or Wisconsin in Tuesday's final match play day.
Despite an opening 73 (+1) from Kim and a 75 in freshman Sophia Trombetta's collegiate debut, U-M got off to a slow start on its home course, posting a 301 first-round tally to position the Maize and Blue seventh in the eight-team field. Moving directly on to the second round, freshman Ashley Lau carded a team-low 71 (-1), while Kim and junior Alisa Snyder each carded a 72 (E) help U-M drop 11 shots and tally a 290. Despite the improved play, U-M remained in the seventh position for the team match play seeding.
Kim paced U-M tying for eighth at 145 (73-72, +1), while Lau's 147 (76-71) tied her for 17th and Snyder's 149 (77-72) tied her for 23rd, giving U-M three among the top 25.
Not playing as part of the team match play, junior Hannah Ghelfi tied for 28th at 150 (73-77) and earned the No. 2 seed for the individual championship bracket, while freshman Jacqueline Young earned the seventh seed and moved to the individual consolation bracket with a 159 (83-76) tally in her collegiate debut.
