Men's Soccer Alum Mertz Picked By Colorado Rapids in MLS SuperDraft

CHICAGO, Ill. -- University of Michigan senior Robbie Mertz was selected by the Colorado Rapids in the fourth round (No. 76 overall) of the MLS SuperDraft, which concluded on Monday (Jan. 14).
Mertz was a United Soccer Coaches All-North Region (second team) and All-Big Ten (first team) selection in 2018. He played in 76 matches (55 starts) over his four-year career, scoring nine goals and tallying 12 assists. A two-year team captain, Mertz started all 21 matches in 2018, accumulating two goals and four assists. He was voted one of the 10 finalists for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award, given annually to the top student-athlete with high marks in character, community, classroom and competition.
Mertz is the 13th player in the history of the program to be selected in the MLS SuperDraft, and sixth since head coach Chaka Daley arrived in 2012. Teammate Marcello Borges was taken in the second round (pick 28) on Friday (Jan. 11) by the Colorado Rapids.
The Rapids have drafted four Michigan players including Borges, Mertz, Michael Holody (2009) and Kevin Taylor (2004).
