ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team got seven wins from members from its senior class, leading the way in a dominating 196-104 win over No. 22 Ohio State on Saturday (Jan. 19) at Canham Natatorium.
"Our seniors have been fantastic for four years and they were really good today," said head coach Mike Bottom. "The last few days have been challenging with two meets against two really good teams and some travel in between, but we dug deep, rallied around each other and had some real great in-season swims. The crowd today was incredible, too, really packing our stands in the middle of a snowstorm. We can't thank them -- and our senior class -- enough."
Senior Siobhán Haughey won the same trio of events for the second time this week, but by bigger margins than Thursday's meet at Indiana. She claimed the 100-yard freestyle by two seconds (48.27), the 200-yard freestyle by three-and-a-half seconds (1:44.99) and the 200-yard IM by two seconds (1:59.91).
Senior Catie DeLoof swept the backstroke events, combining with fellow senior Taylor Garcia on a 1-2 finish in the 100-yard backstroke (53.61/54.57). She also won the 200-yard backstroke by a two-second margin (1:56.18), swimming the event for the first time in a meet this season.
Senior/junior Miranda Tucker and senior Jamie Yeung alternated 1-2 finishes in the breaststroke events. Tucker led a 1-2-4-5 finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.97), while Yeung led wire-to-wire in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:12.41).
Junior Vanessa Krause toughed out a win in the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.49), going for a 1-2 finish with freshman Victoria Kwan. Freshman Maggie MacNeil continued her winning ways, sprinting to a victory in the 50-yard freestyle (22.42) and posting another blistering time to win the 100-yard butterfly by nearly three-and-a-half seconds (51.16).

The Michigan distance crew looked sharp, going 1-3-4-5 in the 500-yard freestyle and 2-3-4 in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Senior Yirong Bi, who did not swim the 1,000-yard freestyle earlier in the meet, controlled the 500-yard freestyle, winning by three-and-a-half seconds (4:46.99).
The Wolverines also won both relays. The foursome of Garcia, Tucker, MacNeil and DeLoof took the 200-yard medley relay to open the meet (1:38.56), while 400-yard freestyle relay team of Haughey, MacNeil, sophomore Daria Pyshnenko and DeLoof were never seriously challenged, winning by almost seven seconds (3:16.63).
Freshman Allie Klein led the way in the diving well, finishing second on one-meter (283.10) and third on three-meter (274.15).
The Wolverines have one final dual meet before the Big Ten Championships, taking place on Friday, Feb. 8, at Michigan State. The meet will begin at 5 p.m. in East Lansing.
