
Bock Claims Four Event Titles as U-M Defeats No. 7 Minnesota

» Cameron Bock won the all-around with the nation's best score (84.70), and captured event wins on still rings, parallel bars and high bar.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The University of Michigan men's gymnastics team began its 2019 dual-meet season on Saturday (Jan. 26) with a rousing 413.150-408.300 victory over the No. 7 Minnesota Golden Gophers at Minnesota's Maturi Pavilion.
Sophomore Cameron Bock marked the nation's best all-around score (84.70) and won three additional event titles on still rings (14.30), parallel bars (14.70), high bar (13.85) and also placed second on floor exercise (14.50). Additional event wins came from sophomore Jacob Moore on floor exercise (14.55) and from senior Emyre Cole on vault (14.85), tying the top score in the NCAA this year.
U-MÂ opened its first dual meet of the season with a 66.00 on pommel horse, and trailed the Golden Gophers by 2.3 points heading into still rings. U-M then marked a 68.95 on rings, as Bock led the effort with a 14.30 to give U-M a lead of .85 points heading into the third rotation, floor exercise.
Michigan then scored a 71.00 as a team, sweeping the top-four spots on the event, with Moore scoring a 14.55 to lead the contingent to extend U-M's lead to 4.8 points. After a 69.250 on parallel bars in the fourth rotation that was led by a career high and event-winning 14.70 from Bock, Michigan relinquished the lead in the fifth rotation. U-M was forced to count a fall on the event, and trailed by 1.65 points heading into the final rotation.
With Michigan on vault and Minnesota on high bar, the Wolverines iced the meet, scoring a 71.70 on the table to Minnesota's 65.20 on high bar. Cole's 14.85 score, along with classmate Anthony McCallum's 14.75 proved large as U-M denied Minnesota's hopeful home victory, giving U-M an important Big Ten victory, as 2019 will be the first season a Big Ten regular-season champion will be crowned.

The Wolverines will welcome Ohio State to Cliff Keen Arena next Saturday (Feb. 2) at 4 p.m. The meet will be streamed live on BTN Plus, and will air live via tape delay on Sunday (Feb. 3) at 9:30 a.m. on Big Ten Network.
