Over the weeks leading up to the 2018-19 dual season, MGoBlue.com will introduce the University of Michigan men's tennis team's four-man freshman class to help fans get to know a little more about the individuals. The series starts with Troy, Michigan, native, Steven Forman.
Steven Forman
Forman comes to Michigan after a storied high school career at Troy High School, where he earned back-to-back state championships (2016-2017). Forman was a five-star recruit and rated No. 11 nationally, according to Tennis Recruiting Network.
Q: Why did you pick Michigan?
A: I chose Michigan because I saw it as a great opportunity for academics and tennis, with the best place to further myself in all aspects.
Q: What has been your favorite thing about U-M so far?
A: My favorite part so far has been all that comes with being a part of the Michigan tennis program and the great atmosphere of the town of Ann Arbor.

Q: Funny story about one of your fellow teammates?
A: For their first ever exam in college, they went to the right building but the wrong room and took the wrong exam of a class in the same subject, but a higher-level course. They just figured it was just difficult until later realizing what happened.
Q: How did you get started in tennis?
A: My parents played tennis when they were younger, and my brother, who is five years older than me, played competitively.
Q: What are three words that best describe you?
A: Easy-going, organized and conscientious.
Q: What are your hobbies and interests outside of tennis?
A: I enjoy playing other sports, especially basketball and golf. Also, I like hanging out with friends.
Q: What are you most looking forward to this season?
A: I'm excited for the environments of college dual matches. The fall is much different, so being able to play alongside my teammates in a dual match will be a lot of fun.
I'd like to contribute and continue the upward trajectory this program has had in recent years. With that, I'd want to be part of a team that is always contending for Big Ten and national championships.
Q: What's the best advice someone has given you?
A:The best advice I've been given in tennis is that everything you do should be done with a purpose in mind. It's something that is vital to be conscious of in a sport like tennis, that has a lot of repetition and can easily breed complacency.
Q: Who has had the greatest impact on your life?
A:My mom.
Michigan will kick off the dual-match portion of its schedule Saturday, Jan. 19, when it travels to Alabama. The Wolverines will return to Ann Arbor on Jan. 26-27, when they host the ITA Kick-Off at the Varsity Tennis Center. U-M will host 12 regular-season matches at the VTC this season, and also will host the Big Ten Tournament, April 25-28. Admission is free to all regular-season matches.
