ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's gymnastics program announced Wednesday (Oct. 16) its 2020 schedule that features five regular-season home meets at Crisler Center.
The 2020 season opener will take place Friday, Jan. 10, when U-M faces off against Washington and Texas Woman's University at 6:30 p.m. on social media night. Washington's head coach is Elise Ray, a two-time national champion and 14-time All-American at Michigan. The meet will mark just the second meeting between the Wolverines and TWU Pioneers, with the other happening at Oklahoma in 2012.
New this year for Michigan women's gymnastics will be senior recognitions at every home meet. The first meet will honor student assistant coaches Sam Roy and Polina Shchennikova. Following the season-opening meet, fans will be able to take selfies with their favorite Michigan women's gymnasts on the Crisler concourse.
On Friday, Jan. 24, Michigan will host Rutgers for its fourth annual Flip for Chip meet, honoring the life of Chip Hills, who passed away from pancreatic cancer. His daughter, Cailee Hills, is a former Michigan gymnast. The meet will also include postgame autographs and recognition of senior Maggie O'Hara.
Fans can enjoy a day at the movies on Sunday, Feb. 9, when the Wolverines square off against Ohio State at 4 p.m. Fans are encouraged to dress as their favorite movie character and walk down the red carpet. Some favorite characters will be on hand on the concourse prior to the start of the meet. This meet will also be Kids Go Blue Club Day, as members are invited to attend the meet free of charge. More information is available via the Kids Go Blue Club monthly newsletter or at MGoBlue.com/KidsClub. There will once again be postgame autographs, and Lexi Funk will be the senior recognition.
U-M will stay home on spring break for the New Hampshire meet on Friday, Feb. 28, at 6:30 p.m. The team will bring the sunshine and beach to Crisler Center with some fun activities around the senior recognition of Maddy Osman and postgame autographs.
All five seniors will be recognized on senior night, Friday, March 13, at 6:30 p.m. when the Wolverines close out their home schedule against Ball State in the teams' fourth meeting all-time and first since 1996. It will be another Kids Go Blue Club Day.
Michigan fans will also have an opportunity to watch the Wolverines in nearby Toledo, Ohio, for the third consecutive season on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Elevate the Stage meet. Once again, Toledo will host both Big Five meets to wrap up Big Ten Conference regular-season competition. The meet will be held on podium with a regular-season Big Ten title up for grabs. U-M will compete at 7 p.m. against Maryland, Michigan State, Minnesota and Penn State.
The Wolverines will also have away meets at Illinois (Jan. 18), at Nebraska (Jan. 30), at Iowa (Feb. 14) and at defending NCAA champion Oklahoma (March 6). Michigan will be bidding for its seventh consecutive league title March 21 at the Big Ten Championships hosted by Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio. NCAA regionals are scheduled for April 3-4, and the NCAA Championships will take place April 17-18 in Fort Worth, Texas.
The first look at the 2020 team will be an exhibition quad meet at Crisler Center on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 4 p.m. U-M will host three other Michigan schools: Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan. There will be a meet and greet event with season ticket holders and the team following the exhibition meet.
