Wolverines Use .463 Hitting Percentage to Roll Past Rutgers in Three Sets

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan volleyball team tallied a .463 hitting percentage en route to a 3-0 win (25-10, 25-15, 25-16) against Rutgers Saturday (Oct. 19) at Cliff Keen Arena.
Sophomore Paige Jones finished with 12 kills and freshman Jess Robinson hit .727 (8-0-11) to lead the Wolverines, who also got 10 digs from junior Natalie Smith along with seven blocks from freshman May Pertofsky. Every player in uniform for the Maize and Blue saw time on the court in the victory, and 10 Wolverines notched at least one kill.
The Wolverines (13-5, 6-2 B1G) had 44 kills and seven errors in 80 attacks for their .463 hitting mark and finished with a sideout percentage of .837. Michigan also had 11 blocks in the match, its second-best total of the season.
U-M grabbed control from the first point of the first set and never looked back, securing a 25-10 victory to start the match. Michigan also supplemented an offense that hit .545 with three aces in the opening set.
The Wolverines carried momentum from a set-one win by securing a 25-15 victory in the second stanza. Michigan totaled 16 kills along the way and blocked six Rutgers attacks in the stanza.
Michigan led from the opening point of the final set to earn a 25-16 victory. The Wolverines had 14 kills, three aces and four blocks in the stanza.
U-M will be back in action on Friday (Oct. 25) when it hosts Minnesota at 7 p.m. in Crisler Center.
