The University of Michigan volleyball team (13-5, 6-2 Big Ten) will wrap its four-match homestand this weekend when it hosts No. 7-ranked Minnesota (13-3, 7-1 Big Ten) on Friday (Oct. 25) at 6 p.m. in Crisler Center and No. 6 Wisconsin (12-4, 8-0 Big Ten) on Sunday (Oct. 26) at 1 p.m. in Cliff Keen Arena.
Friday's game is Michigan's annual Pink Game. The Wolverines will be wearing pink warmups and fans are encouraged to wear pink to support the fight against breast cancer. There also will be a pink LED sticks giveaway for the first 2,500 fans.Mac Hits 4,600
MacKenzi Welsh eclipsed the 4,600-assist mark and moved into fifth in program history in all-time assists thanks to her 27-assist performance against Rutgers last Saturday (Oct. 19). Her 4,606 assists put her 156 behind Lisa Gamalski (2001-04) for fourth place on Michigan's all-time list.
Keeping Up with Jones
Sophomore Paige Jones is sixth in the Big Ten in kills per set with 3.59. The outside hitter also is hitting .262, an improvement of nearly 70 points from her final attack percentage in 2018.
Where They Rank
The Wolverines come into the weekend ranked second in the Big Ten in aces per set (1.73) and third in team attack percentage (.277). Those marks are good for 20th and 15th, respectively, in the NCAA.
Home Court Advantage
Michigan is 8-1 when playing in Ann Arbor this season, going 4-1 in Crisler Center and 4-0 in Cliff Keen Arena. Michigan's lone home loss came against then-No. 8 Penn State on Oct. 18
Pack 'em In
With nine home matches under its belt, Michigan ranks seventh in the Big Ten in average attendance with 2,065, behind Nebraska (8,187), Wisconsin (7,052), Minnesota (5,700), Penn State (3,384), Michigan State (3,260), and Illinois (2,581).
How Sweep it Is
The Wolverines started their Big Ten slate with four consecutive sweeps (at Rutgers, vs. Ohio State, at Maryland, at Ohio State) for the first time in program history. Michigan has 10 sweeps in 2019.
Scouting the Opposition
No. 7 Minnesota
U-M trails, 52-16, in the all-time series against the the Golden Gophers
Minnesota comes into the weekend with an overall record of 13-3 and is one of three teams in the Big Ten with a 7-1 record. The Golden Gophers lead the Big Ten in assists per set (13.72) and kills per set (14.68), which rank fifth and sixth in the NCAA, respectively.
No. 6 Wisconsin
U-M trails, 50-26, in the all-time series against the Badgers
The Badgers come enter the weekend with the only undefeated Big Ten record (8-0) and are 12-4 overall. Wisconsin is leading the Big Ten in aces per set (1.73) and hitting percentage (.283), while setter Sydney Hilley leads the conference and is eighth in the nation in assists per set (11.39).
Michigan Under Rosen
The 2019 campaign marks the program's 47th season and 21st under head coach Mark Rosen. In his time leading the Maize and Blue, Rosen has compiled a 421-259 record and has guided Michigan to 17 of its 20 NCAA postseason appearances. In addition to serving as the longest-tenured volleyball coach at Michigan, Rosen is the winningest coach in program history.
