ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's gymnastics team held its annual Maize and Blue Intrasquad meet on Saturday (Dec. 14), with Blue defeating Maize, 317.000-316.250, at Cliff Keen Arena. Junior Cameron Bock won three events for the Maize team, while graduate student Uche Eke and junior Nick Guy won an event apiece for team Blue.
On pommel horse, team Blue swept the event with Eke earning the win with a 13.90, freshman Markus Shears scoring a 13.70 and junior Jacob Moore marking a 13.45.
Floor exercise was led by the Maize squad with Bock (13.90) and freshman Adam Wooten (13.30). Guy led a 1-2 finish for the Blue squad on the vault table, notching a 14.75, while freshman Paul Juda scored a 14.25 to take second place.
Bock won parallel bars with a 14.00 to lead the Maize, but Blue took second place with Eke's 13.600 while freshman Virgil Watkins and Moore tied for third with matching marks of 13.400.
Maize held a slim lead going into the final rotation and took the top five spots on high bar, led by a 13.300 from Wooten. Junior Jonathan Liu scored a 13.250, while Bock placed third with a 13.200. However, Blue overtook Maize with a solid performance on parallel bars to capture the victory.
Bock led the all-around with a score of 82.750 for the Maize squad, while Juda scored a 78.200 to lead the Blue team.
Seven freshmen made their U-M debuts in Casey Cummings (floor exercise, vault), Juda (all-around), Brandon Robinson (pommel horse), Shears (pommel horse, vault), Watkins (vault, parallel bars, high bar), David Willett (parallel bars, still rings, pommel horse), and Wooten (all-around).
