STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Coming off a season-high score at home last weekend, the No. 8 University of Michigan women's gymnastics team continued its uphill climb with a season-best road score of 197.075 to beat No. 24-ranked Penn State (194.750) on Saturday (Feb. 16).
The win was the fifth consecutive for the Wolverines as they remained undefeated in the Big Ten at 5-0 and improved to 9-2 overall. The 197.075 topped the team's previous best road score of 196.400 that Michigan compiled at Maryland.
Michigan swept the individual events, with senior Olivia Karas and freshman Natalie Wojcik each sticking their Yurchenko 1 1/2 for a 9.950 on vault. Wojcik also won balance beam (9.925), floor exercise (9.900) and the all-around (39.625). Sophomore Lauren Farley won the uneven bars for the first time in her career with a 9.875.
The two 9.950 vault scores highlighted a season-high vault score of 49.400. It was the top rotation of the meet for the Wolverines followed closely by a 49.350 on beam. Sophomore Anne Maxim scored a 9.850 on vault also for her highest score of the season.
The U-M beam rotation was led off by a 9.900 by Farley, matching her season high. Junior Lexi Funk scored a 9.875 later in the rotation to set up Wojcik's sixth win of the year in seven meets. All six Wolverines scored a 9.825 or better.
Wojcik was terrific across the board, matching her season-high all-around score. She scored a 9.900 or better on three of her four events to give her 16 event titles and six all-around crowns this year.
