BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team saw title-winning performances from freshman Maggie MacNeil (100-yard butterfly), senior Siobhán Haughey (200-yard freestyle) and the 200-yard freestyle relay on Friday (Feb. 22) at the Big Ten Championships at the Counsilman Billingsley Aquatic Center. In the team race, the Wolverines remain in second place (827.5 points), while Indiana continues to hold the lead (938.5 points).
"If you look at the score, you wouldn't understand what a great meet we had tonight," said head coach Mike Bottom. "Three more school records, another Big Ten Championships record and a tremendous accomplishment from Siobhán, winning the 200-yard freestyle for the fourth year in a row. Coach Harbaugh gave us a call before tonight's session and we're going to follow his advice for when you're down two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Tomorrow morning, we'll focus on offense, be aggressive and score points for Michigan."
MacNeil had another strong day, first winning the 100-yard butterfly with the second-fastest time in NCAA history while setting Big Ten, Big Ten Championships and U-M records (49.59). Per SwimSwam.com, that's the fastest time ever swum by a freshman in the 100-yard butterfly. She is the first Michigan swimmer to win the event since Caitlin Dauw in 2011. Heading into the NCAA Championships next month, MacNeil is within striking distance of the NCAA record of 49.43, set by former Louisville swimmer Kelsi Worrell in 2016.

She was one of five swimmers to score in the 100-yard butterfly. Sophomore Alexis Margett (10th, 52.83) and junior Vanessa Krause (11th, 53.48) were in the consolation final, while sophomores Emma Cleason (17th, 53.41) and Claire Maiocco (24th, 54.72) were in the bonus final.
Haughey was the third seed coming into the 200-yard freestyle final, but blew well past that to earn her fourth consecutive title in the event, scoring a Big Ten Championships record (1:41.57). She is the second U-M swimmer in program history to win that event all four years, joining Lindsey Smith (2004-07). Two other Wolverines were in the final with Haughey, including senior Catie DeLoof, who took a silver and bypassed her older sister, Gabby DeLoof, for the second-fastest time in school history (1:42.55). Senior Yirong Bi was sixth (1:45.17), while senior Becca Postoll added points with a 14th-place finish (1:47.09).

Redshirt junior Miranda Tucker also scored a runner-up finish, placing second in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.25). Senior Jamie Yeung, who swam that event and the 400-yard IM twice on Friday, made her first Big Ten Championships final and set a personal record, finishing fourth (59.50).
