
Men's Swimmers Conclude Races at First Chance Meet

» Four swimmers now appear in the top 16 of the Big Ten rankings following their suited swims at the First Chance Meet, led by Mason Hunter, who posted the sixth-fastest time in the Big Ten (and 10th-fastest in school history) in the 200-yard breaststroke (1:55.19).

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Four members of the University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team moved into the top 16 of the Big Ten rankings with suited swims on Sunday (Feb. 24) at the Michigan First Chance Meet at Canham Natatorium.
Freshman Mason Hunter, who yesterday threw down a 52.77 in the 100-yard breaststroke (No. 4 in the Big Ten, No. 8 in school history), was at it again Sunday, going 1:55.19 in the 200-yard breaststroke. That's the sixth-fastest time in the Big Ten this season and tenth-fastest in school history.
Others now appearing in the Big Ten rankings after their swims on Sunday include freshman AJ Bornstein (1:56.69 in the 200-yard breaststroke -- No. 9 in the Big Ten), freshman Jared Daigle (3:50.66 in the 400-yard IM -- No. 10 in the 400-yard IM; 1:44.60 in the 200-yard backstroke -- No. 12 in the Big Ten) and freshman Andrew Babyak (15:24.52 in the 1,650-yard freestyle -- No. 12 in the Big Ten).
The Wolverines now set their sights on the Big Ten Championships, which run Wednesday through Saturday (Feb. 27-March 2) in Iowa City, Iowa. Preliminaries begin at 11 a.m. (CST), with finals following at 6:30 p.m.
