ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's basketball team (No. 9 AP, No. 10 Coaches Poll) rolled to an 82-53 win over visiting Nebraska on Thursday (Feb. 28), which was also Senior Night. The contest was Michigan's final home game of the season as it ended the year 17-1 at Crisler Center.
Senior Charles Matthews was honored prior to tipoff, accompanied by his parents, Charles and Nichole Matthews.
Junior Jon Teske and sophomore Isaiah Livers went for double-doubles, with Teske collecting team-highs in points (22) and rebounds (10). Livers, who made his first start of the season, scored 12 points and grabbed 10 boards. Freshman Ignas Brazdeikis chipped in 20 points
Thursday's game maked the first time Michigan had two 20-point scorers in the same game since it hosted North Carolina (Nov. 28), when Brazdeikis (24) and Matthews (21) combined for 45 points.
Freshman Colin Castleton had a breakout game, scoring a career-best 11 points to nearly double his season total (six), while adding three rebounds and one block.
Brazdeikis kicked off the scoring with an up and under layup just 35 seconds into the game. Livers followed just over a minute later with a deep three-pointer late in the shot clock.
Teske hit a three-pointer from the left wing, a pair of free throws and another trey to give Michigan a 13-6 lead with 14:57 left in the first half.
Coming out of the timeout, Castleton saw his first action of the game, contributing four points in four minutes to help the Wolverines extended their lead to 19-7 with 11:37 remaining in the half.
A three-pointer followed by a mini hook shot in the post from Livers gave Michigan a 27-11 edge with under eight minutes to play in the period.
A layup from Teske completed a run of 16-10 to close out the first half with Michigan ahead, 43-21. The Maize and Blue shot effectively (65.4 percent clip), including 75 percent from three. Both marks are the highest of any half all season.
Teske led all first half scorers with 14 points. Brazdeikis added 11 points and five boards.
Nebraska began the second-half scoring with a fast-break layup. Despite committing three turnovers in the first four minutes of the second half, Michigan held an 18-point lead (50-32) five minutes into the half.
A free throw with 14:32 to play gave Teske 18 points, a career high. On the following possession, Poole threw down an dunk and was fouled. He made the free throw to extend Michigan's advantage to 54-32 with 14:32 remaining.
A Castleton layup and a made free throw gave Michigan a 62-36 lead with 11:30 to play in the game. A three-pointer by Brazdeikis on a dish from Poole extended Michigan's lead to 74-49 with under four minutes to go.
Michigan emptied its bench over the last several minutes, leading to a three-pointer from sophomore C.J. Baird to increase the lead to 78-49 with under two minutes to play. Sophomore guard Rico Ozuna-Harrison played two minutes off the bench, while sophomore Luke Wilson and freshman Adrien Nuñez also saw minutes off the bench.
The Wolverines will be back in action Sunday (March 3), when they will be in College Park, Maryland, to face off against the Terrapins. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:45 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on CBS.
