Michigan to Take on No. 18 Johns Hopkins at U-M Lacrosse Stadium

The No. 8-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team resumes Big Ten Conference action Saturday (March 30) when it welcomes No. 18 Johns Hopkins, the Wolverines' sixth ranked opponent of the season. The men's and women's lacrosse teams will play a doubleheader featured on BTN with the women leading things off at noon with the men taking on the Blue Jays at 3 p.m. at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
Series History with Johns Hopkins
• The Blue Jays lead the all-time series, 3-0, with Michigan falling, 10-8, in last season's meeting (April 8, 2018) at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
• The Wolverines have started to close the gap on Johns Hopkins. In the first meeting between the schools (March 16, 2014) Michigan lost by 15 goals on the road, then fell by seven in the second before dropping last season's contest by just two goals.
• Michigan and Johns Hopkins will meet for the first time when both teams are ranked in the weekly IWLCA Coaches Poll.U-M is No. 8 and the Blue Jays are ranked No. 18.
Scouting the Blue Jays
• Johns Hopkins travels to Ann Arbor with an 8-2 overall record and a 1-0 record in Big Ten action after defeating Rutgers, 16-9, last Saturday (March 23).
• The Blue Jays rank third in the conference in goals per game (14.7) and points per game (22.0), while ranking second in assists per game (7.3).
• Junior Maggie Schneidereith leads the Hopkins attack with 45 points (29 goals, 16 assists) and has tallied four game-winning goals for the Blue Jays. Schneidereith has eight multi-goal games this season, including scoring six against Saint Joseph's (March 6) and adding five against High Point (March 13).
• Sophomore Aurora Cordingley also has notched 20 goals for the Blue Jays this season, scoring 21 and adding 15 assists for 36 points in 10 games. Cordingley is 5-for-7 on free-position attempts and has 14 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers.
• Shelby Harrison, Ellie McNulty and Keegan Barger lead the Johns Hopkins draw control with 46, 37 and 34 wins, respectively.
• In goal, Haley Crosson has started all 10 games sand has a 10.24 goals-against average, giving up 92 goals in 538 minutes, 49 seconds in the cage. Crosson has made 72 saves and has a .439 save percentage.
Locked-In Defense
• The Michigan defense has given up just 91 goals this season and is allowing opponents to score just 7.6 goals per game.
• U-M's scoring defense ranks second in the Big Ten behind No. 2 Maryland and comes in sixth nationally.
• The Wolverines also rank second in the conference and seventh nationally with a .527 save percentage.
• Senior goalie Mira Shane has started every game for the Wolverines in the cage and has made 82 saves and carries a .529 save percentage, including three games with double-digit saves and seven games with a save percentage over .500.
• The senior trio of Gabby Burns, Casey Cummo and Madison Richardson has protected its keeper this season as all three have double-digit ground balls, while Cummo, Richardson and junior Quinn Melidona have double-digit caused turnovers.
Stewart Turning into All-Around Player
• Junior Nadine Stewart has stepped up her game in her third season as a Wolverine, having already crushed all of her 2018 season-bests by scoring 17 goals, (six last season) and has accumulated 22 total points to double her total from a year ago.
• The New Westminster, British Columbia, native also has doubled her ground balls to 17 from seven in 2018, while causing 12 turnovers compared to her eight in 15 games a year ago.
