ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The No. 2 seed University of Michigan men's basketball team saw its season come to an end on Thursday night (March 28) at the hands of No. 3 seed Texas Tech, 63-44, at Honda Center.
Freshman Ignas Brazdeikis led the Wolverines with his third career double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing a career-best 13 rebounds. Senior Charles Matthews also reached double figures with 12 points. Matthews and sophomore Jordan Poole each dished out three assists and Poole scored eight points on the evening.
Junior Jon Teske led Michigan with two blocks and junior Zavier Simpson tallied two steals.
Both teams were solid defensively early in the first half as they combined for 14 points with Texas Tech holding a slight 8-6 advantage with under 10 minutes to play in the opening half.
Neither team was able to put together any sort of run in the first half, but two three-pointers from Texas Tech and an answer on each Michigan basket allowed the Red Raiders to head into the locker room on top, 24-16.
Texas Tech opened the second half on a tear, going on a 12-2 run over the first four minutes to extend its lead to 36-18 and forced a Michigan timeout. The Red Raiders took control of the game as they increased their lead to as many as 25 as the Michigan offense was unable to find any type of rhythm.
The Wolverines could not make headway on a comeback attempt as each time Michigan tried to start a run in the second half, it was quickly stifled by the Texas Tech defense.
Michigan ended the season with a 30-7 overall record, which included starting the campaign 17-0, for its second consecutive 30-win season and made the Sweet 16 for the third straight season.
