The Wolverines notched four event victories at the Louisville Invitational, and racked up six more runner-up finishes and 24 total top-five performances. The crew in Louisville, Kentucky, also accounted for nine career-best performances.
Two of those victories came in the sprints and hurdles, where true freshman Job Mayhue took the win in the 110-meter hurdles in historic fashion, and fellow true freshman Ian Davis led a 1-2-3 sweep of the 400-meter event. Distance runner Joost Plaetinck -- finishing first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in what was his career debut in the event -- and triple jumper Daniel Butael accounted for the other two wins.
Mayhue's performance perhaps was the most impressive, as his 13.99 (+1.5m/s) showing in the hurdles obliterated his previous personal record -- 14.23, set in the prelims on Saturday -- by nearly a quarter of a second to move him into the all-time Michigan top 10. He became just the 10th man in school history to crack 14 seconds in the event.
He was not alone in the final as Sierra Hendrix-Williams clocked a career-best 14.18 for fourth place with Roland Amarteifio not much farther behind at 14.21 for fifth.
Mayhue's performance puts him on the inside of the projected qualifying bubble for the NCAA East Preliminaries in the event, to be contested in May. The top 48 performers in each event in the NCAA East Region will earn berths to what is, in effect, the opening rounds of the NCAA Championships.
Amarteifio also bolstered his chances of going to the Prelims in the 400-meter hurdles, as he ran a career-best 51.47 for third place.
Davis was strong in the open 400 meters as he crossed the line in 47.77 to lead a 1-2-3 Michigan finish with teammates Vail Hartman and Desmond Melson. Hartman clocked a career-best 48.28, with Melson going 48.59 right behind him.
Melson and Hartman teamed with Amarteifio and Noah Caudy to close out the day with a runner-up 4x400 relay team.
Plaetinck made the most of his career debut in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking a 9:00.58 performance that puts him on the projected bubble for qualifying to the NCAA East Prelims. He got the win by about 12 seconds over teammate Christian Hubaker.
Headlining the action in the field was Butael, who hop, skipped and jumped out to 15.10m (49 feet, 6.5 inches) for his best-ever outdoor mark in a Michigan uniform.
Also impressive in the field was Max Wagner, who finished runner-up in the high jump with a career-best 2.10m (6-10.75) clearance. Alex Klemm also cleared a season's best 2.05m (6-8.75) for fourth.
Wagner, Hubaker and Hartman were joined as runners-up by several of their Wolverine teammates.
Matt Plowman was second at 800 meters in 1:52.53 to lead four Michigan men under 1:53 and into the top five: third-place Ben Hill, fourth-place Derrick Simmons and fifth-place Cole Johnson, all were separated by .4 of a second.
In the longer distances, Gabe Mudel -- two weeks removed from his trip to the IAAF World U20 Cross Country Championships for Team USA -- was the runner-up at 3,000 meters in 8:25.19.

The University of Michigan throws corps flexed its national-caliber muscle at the Triton Invitational on Saturday (April 13) with a combined three invitational-section finals appearances and an additional career-best performance.
Big Ten champion and All-American Joe Ellis led the way with a runner-up finish in the hammer throw as he turned in his best-ever season-debut performance, while All-American Andrew Liskowitz finished sixth in the best section of the shot put.
Kicking off the final outdoor campaign of his decorated career, Ellis put a 70.59m (231 feet, 7 inches) mark up on the national leaderboard as he surpassed 70 meters on three different throws. Never before in an outdoor debut had Ellis gone 70 meters or farther more than once.
In addition to his best -- which ranks No. 10 nationally -- he also posted marks of 70.41m (231-0) and 70.29m (230-7).
Manning Plater was eighth in the same final with a mark of 60.83m (199-7). Plater was also a standout in the discus, where he finished sixth in the non-invitational section with a career-best throw of 53.39m (175-2) that moves him to No. 6 in school history and into position to potentially qualify for the NCAA East Preliminaries. It was one of three throws on the day that surpassed his previous best of 50.66m (166-2), as well as a pair of back-to-back 51.95m (170-5) throws.
Liskowitz closed out the night with a pair of 19.21m (63-0.25) marks to finish sixth in the invitational shot put. That pair of marks -- achieved on his fourth and sixth attempts -- are the best-ever outdoor debut performances in his career and will mark will rank top-20 nationally.
