Cameron Bock, Kevin Penev
Big Ten Gymnast of the Week -- Cameron Bock won three event titles on pommel horse (13.900), high bar (13.600) and all-around (83.400) in U-M's defeat of Illinois-Chicago on Saturday (March 30). The honor is the third of the season and fourth of his career. » Big Ten Release
Big Ten Freshman of the Week -- Kevin Penev earned a pair of top-five finishes on floor exercise (third, 14.050) and on vault (fourth, 14.100) in U-M's defeat of UIC on Saturday (March 30). The honor is the first of his career. » Big Ten Release
Emyre Cole (Feb. 5)
Big Ten Gymnast of the Week -- Senior Emyre Cole was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week after earning the all-around title on Saturday (Feb. 2) versus No. 8-ranked Ohio State with an 84.10, the third highest in the NCAA this season. In the Michigan victory, Cole also took event wins on floor exercise (14.60) and vault (14.75), as well as a second-place finish on parallel bars (14.35). Cameron Bock (Jan. 29-30)
CGA National, Big Ten Co-Gymnast of the Week -- Sophomore Cameron Bock was named CGA National Gymnast of the Week as well as Big Ten Gymnast of the Week for the second straight week, sharing the award with Penn State's Sam Zakutney. Bock compiled the highest all-around score in the country with an 84.70, and took event wins on still rings (14.30), parallel bars (14.70) and high bar (13.85) on Saturday (Jan. 27) against No. 7 Minnesota. Bock's average scores rank in the top 10 nationally on pommel horse (ninth, 13.55), parallel bars (fourth, 14.375) and all-around (third, 82.675). Cameron Bock (Jan. 22)
Big Ten Gymnast of the Week -- Sophomore Cameron Bock earned the plaudit after winning the all-around at the Windy City Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 19). The recipient of the Gary Morava Cup for his victory, Bock compiled a score of 80.650, highlighted by a second-place finish on parallel bars (14.05), third-place effort on high bar (13.75) and a fourth-place finish on pommel horse (13.80). The title was the second all-around title of his young career, and the Big Ten honor is the second Gymnast of the Week award of his career. » Big Ten Release
Cameron Bock, Jacob Moore (Dec. 13)
Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch -- Sophomores Cameron Bock and Jacob Moore have been named Gymnasts to Watch by the Big Ten Conference.
Bock figures to be one of the nation's top returning all-arounders after placing 10th at NCAA's with a score of 81.032, a number that is the fourth-highest in the nation for a returning gymnast. He also is coming off a summer during which he placed seventh in the all-around at the US Championships (81.999) and earned a spot on the United States Senior National Team. A gymnast with few weaknesses, Bock will lead the Wolverines on his top event, parallel bars.
At the NCAA Championships, Moore tied for an NCAA runner-up finish on floor exercise with a 14.366, the highest finish for a Wolverine on the exercise since 1992. Moore and Bock represent two-thirds of U-M's returning All-Americans from a season ago, along with senior Ryan Dunning (still rings).
As a team, U-M was selected third in the annual Big Ten Preseason Coaches Poll, with defending Big Ten Champion Illinois taking the top spot. Minnesota came in at No. 2, with Penn State coming in fourth. The poll was rounded out by No. 5 Ohio State, Nebraska (sixth) and Iowa (seventh). » Big Ten Release
