The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team heads to Baltimore, Maryland, as the No. 3 seed for the Big Ten Tournament in which it will face No. 2 seed Northwestern on Friday night (May 3). The game will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network with first draw at 7:30 p.m. from Homewood Field, home of Johns Hopkins University.
The Wolverines and Wildcats will play for the second time this season as Michigan took a tough 14-11 road loss to NU two weeks ago (April 18). Michigan is looking for its first win over Northwestern, as it is 0-8 all-time against the Wildcats.
Michigan at the Big Ten Tournament
• Michigan previously has appeared in the Big Ten Tournament twice in the six-year history of the program (2015, 2016).
• However, since the conference went to a four-team tournament format (2017), the Wolverines had not qualified until this season after finishing third in the conference standings.
• Coincidentally, when the conference took all seven teams, Michigan played Northwestern in both of its trips to the Big Ten Tournament.
• The Wolverines had a 13-9 setback to the then-No. 9 Wildcats in 2015 and fell 20-5 in the 2016 season.
• U-M is looking for its first Big Ten Tournament win and will face the winner of No. 1 Maryland vs. No. 4 seed Penn State if Michigan earns a victory over Northwestern.
Wolverines in Maryland
• Michigan has traveled to the state of Maryland eight times and is looking to come away with its first win in the Old Line State.
• The Wolverines have traveled to Maryland, Johns Hopkins, Navy and Towson.
• U-M has played two contests at Homewood Field against Johns Hopkins but its game against Northwestern will be the first neutral-site game for the Wolverines.
Pendino Records Michigan Single Season Goals Record
• Senior Adriana Pendino notched the Michigan single-season goals record when she scored two goals against Detroit Mercy in the regular-season finale on April 23.
• Pendino has 37 goals in her final season as Wolverine, surpassing Kim Coughlin's 36 goals in both the 2016 and 2017 campaigns.
• This season, Pendino has scored a career-best 37 goals with 11 multi-goal games and six hat tricks.
Kane Carries Program-Best Goal Streak into Postseason Play
• Sophomore Maggie Kane has been a major part of the Michigan offense in her sophomore season, ranking fourth with 36 points in 17 games.
• This year, Kane has scored 33 goals and has eight multi-goal games.
• Kane has scored in all 17 games this season and in 22 straight games dating back to last season and holds the Michigan record for consecutive games with a goal.
• The sophomore surpassed Anna Schueler's record of 16 games (Feb. 22-April 30, 2015).
Shane Named Tewaaraton Nominee
• Senior Mira Shane has been named to the 25-player Tewaaraton Award nominees list.
• She has been an integral part of the Wolverines record-breaking 15-2 campaign and has appeared in all 17 games in the cage with a 12-2 record.
• The Princeton, New Jersey, native carried a .502 save percentage, making 115 stops this year, including four games with 10 saves or more.
• Shane owns the Michigan program record with 23 wins and also holds the single-game saves record (18) set against Dartmouth on Feb. 17.
• This season, she also has been named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and US Lacrosse Player of the Week.
