ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- In conjunction with the Big Ten and Big East Conferences, the University of Michigan men's basketball program announced Wednesday (May 29) its inclusion in the 2019 Gavitt Tipoff Games, where the Wolverines will have a home matchup with Creighton University on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at Crisler Center.
U-M and Creighton meet up on the hardwood for the first time since the 2009-10 campaign when Michigan defeated the Bluejays, 83-76, in overtime at the Old Spice Classic (Nov. 26). Prior to the 2009 meeting, the Wolverines had played Creighton only one other time, with an 81-62 victory on Dec. 3, 1962.
The Gavitt Games, which are scheduled through 2022, offer an early-season series of games between the Big Ten and Big East, and are named in honor of founder of the Big East, basketball visionary and Hall of Famer Dave Gavitt.
Michigan has appeared in the Gavitt Games on two other occasions, having played in the inaugural event (Nov. 25, 2015) when the Wolverines hosted Xavier at Crisler Center and fell to the Musketeers, 86-70. Last season, Michigan defeated No. 8 Villanova 73-46, avenging its loss in the national title game.
All game times and television details will be released at a later date.
