TORONTO -- Rising sophomore Victoria Kwan of the University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team was chosen to represent Canada at this summer's World University Games, per an official announcement from U SPORTS on Wednesday (May 29).
Kwan earned her spot on the team after she finished fourth in the 200-meter butterfly at the 2019 Canadian Swimming Trials in April. She also was eighth in the 400-meter IM and 19th in the 200-meter IM. Kwan previously represented Canada at the 2018 Junior Pan Pacific Championships and 2017 World Junior Championships.
At the Big Ten Championships in February, Kwan was fourth in the 200-yard butterfly, 12th in the 400-yard IM and 13th in the 200-yard IM. She finished the year ranked seventh in school history in both the 200-yard butterfly and 400-yard IM.
The World University Games will be held July 3-14 in Naples, Italy. Kwan is the fourth Michigan swimmer heading to WUGs, joining Team USA's Sierra Schmidt, Gabby DeLoof (2015-18) and Catie DeLoof (2016-19), and junior Luiz Gustavo Borges (Brazil).
