
Women's Swimming and Diving Adds Three for 2019-20

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan head swimming and diving coach Mike Bottom announced on Wednesday (May 8) the additions of Maddie Bauer (Asheville, N.C.), Octavia Lau (Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada) and Paige Sundermann (Ann Arbor, Mich.) to the team's 2019-20 roster.
"These two swimmers add to the depth and quality that we've already established for 2019," said Bottom. "This entire class, combined with what we've already got lined up for 2020, form a building block for our program's bright future."
"Paige is local diver who is rapidly developing on platform," said diving coach Mike Hilde. "She's got a lot of potential and will be a great addition to our group."
Maddie Bauer | Freestyle | Asheville, N.C. (Carolina Day School/Smoky Mountain Aquatic Club)
Bauer swims across the freestyle lengths for Smoky Mountain Aquatic Club. She finaled in two events at the 2019 North Carolina SC Senior Championships, taking fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.49) and sixth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:04.36). Bauer recently swam at the NCSA Junior National Championships in the 50-yard freestyle and 50-yard backstroke.

Octavia Lau | Distance | Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada (Lmrl Rivière-du-Loup/Hyack Swim Club)
Lau is a Canadian distance swimmer who trains with Hyack Swim Club. She represented Canada at the 2018 Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Fiji, finishing eighth in the 1,500-meter freestyle (17:19.91), ninth in the 800-meter freestyle (8:53.10) and 12th in the 400-meter freestyle (4:19.43). Lau also swam at the 2018 FINA Junior Open Water National Championships in Eliat, Israel, finishing 29th in the 7.5 KM swim (1:47:22).

Paige Sundermann | Diving | Ann Arbor, Mich. (Skyline/Legacy Diving)
Sundermann is a local diver who competes with Legacy Diving Club. She has competed at several USA Diving Zone and Junior events, but also has qualified for the National Championships, finishing 12th on platform and 12th on three-meter for the Girls 14-15 group in 2015. Sundermann finished eighth on platform at the 2018 USA Diving Zone C Championships and was eighth on three-meter at the 2018 USA Diving Junior Region 5 Championships. As a member of Skyline High School, she finished sixth on one-meter at the 2018 MHSAA Girls DI State Championships.
The 2019-20 recruiting class now stands at 11. The program previously announced the signings of Lauren Cheetham (Lewis Center, Ohio), Megan Glass (Cincinnati, Ohio), Anna Hansen (Grand Rapids, Mich.), Lucy Hogan (Evanston, Ill.), Sophia Kudryashova (New Providence, N.J.), Kaitlynn Sims (Montgomery, Texas), Katii Tang (Hong Kong) and Mariella Venter (Johannesburg, South Africa).
