
Wolverines Add 11 Commitments to 2019 Class

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Fresh off a third-place team finish at the NCAA Championships, the Big Ten Champion Michigan rowing program announced the addition of 11 student-athlete commitments to the program, joining its five previously-recognized commitments for the Class of 2019.
The class includes: Hannah Braum, Kendall Brown, Julia Casey, Aubrey Fitts, Shantellie Hickinson, Katelyn Kerns, Ahava Kopald, Lindsey Luczak, Olivia McMullen, Maddie Moore and Gabrielle Skinner. These student-athletes will join the program this fall along with Elle Caton, Elena Collier-Hezel, Caitlin Esse, Isabel Mezeias and Katie Zaslaw as incoming freshmen.
"We are very excited about this group of incoming freshmen," said head coach Mark Rothstein. "Our staff has done an excellent job of recruiting student-athletes to Michigan who fit our culture and who can contribute to the success of our program. This incoming class is filled with hard-working, high-reaching young women who will be great contributors to Michigan. We are looking forward to welcoming them to campus as Wolverines."
Hannah Braum
• Graduated from Centerville High School; hometown is Dayton, Ohio
• Rowed at Dayton Boat Club (2017-19)
• Began rowing at Greater Dayton (2015-17) focusing on sculling
• Placed 15th at Head of the Charles (1x) in 2017
• Finished 13th at Youth Nationals (1x) in 2018
• Competed as a martial artist with belts in Hapkido, Judo and Taekwondo
• Also played soccer and lacrosse, and danced
Kendall Brown
• Graduated from Elk Rapids High School in Elk Rapids, Michigan
• Lettered in basketball and soccer for the Elks
• All-state athlete in both sports, and regional player of the year on the court
Julia Casey
• Graduated from Avonworth High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
• Rowed with the Three Rivers Junior Rowing program
• Earned a top-20 finish at Head of the Charles (4+)
• First-place finish at the Mid-Atlantic Erg Sprints
• Placed second at the World Indoor Rowing Championship
• Finished third at the Midwest Regional Championship (8+)
Aubrey Fitts
• Graduated from Winter Park High School in Winter Park, Florida
• Rowed four years as a member of Winter Park's varsity eight crew
• Won two Florida Scholastic Rowing Association (FRSA) state titles (2016, '18) and finished runner-up on two occasions (2017, '19)
• Earned three top-five finishes at Scholastic Rowing Association of America (SRAA) nationals (second, 2017-18; fifth, 2019; seventh, 2016)
• Recipient of the captain award as a senior and the most dedicated novice award as a freshman
Shantellie Hickinson
• Graduated from Brighton High School; hometown is Milford, Michigan
• Scholastic student-athlete in volleyball and track and field for the Bulldogs
• Midwest Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association (MIVCA) Academic All-State Award in both sports
• Also competed as part of the Michigan Elite Volleyball 18 National West team
Katelyn Kerns
• Graduated from Pinckney High School in Pinckney, Michigan
• All-state academic student-athlete competing in volleyball and tennis for the Pirates
• Earned four varsity letters as a volleyball player; team captain in both sports
• All-conference in tennis
Ahava Kopald
• Graduated from Skyline High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan
• U.S. Nationals Champion (4x)
• Two-time Canadian Secondary School Rowing Association (CSSRA) medalist
• Multi-time Midwest Champion
• Rowed for Skyline crew in high school; team captain for the Eagles
Lindsey Luczak
• Graduated from Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan
• Academic all-state student-athlete in volleyball and lacrosse for the Cougars
• All-conference in volleyball
• Brother, Nick, attends U-M (Class of 2022)
Olivia McMullen
• Graduated from Grand Haven High School in Grand Haven, Michigan
• Academic All-State honoree in volleyball, team captain
• Four-time letter winner for the Buccaneers in basketball (two) and volleyball (two)
Maddie Moore
• Graduated from Saugatuck High School in Saugatuck, Michigan
• 2019 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SAC) Scholar-Athlete
• Four-time all-conference athlete for the Indians in basketball (2016, '18) and volleyball (2017-18)
• Also earned all-conference and all-district honors in soccer (2017)
• Scored 1,000 career points in basketball
Gabrielle Skinner
• Attended Hartland High School, hometown is Brighton, Michigan
• MElite 18 -- Elite West volleyball
• Two-time Kensington Lakes Athletics Association (KLAA) Athlete Award recipient (2016-17, 2017-18) for the Eagles
