SAN JOSE, Costa Rica -- A trio of women from the University of Michigan track and field team combined to earn four medals at the Pan-American U20 Championships on Saturday and Sunday (July 20-21).
Aurora Rynda returns to Ann Arbor with two Pan-Am silver medals, while teammates Anne Forsyth and Megan Worrel claimed silver and bronze in their respective events.
Rynda, competing for Team Canada, took the silver medal in the 800-meter final on Saturday. The 2019 Big Ten Indoor Championships 600-meter champion, Rynda finished behind only Team USA's Athing Mu and edged out another American, Morgan Foster, by .18 in 2:07.78.
She returned to action as a member of Canada's second-place 4x400 relay on Sunday, splitting 53.2 on the second leg.
Canadian teammate Forsyth, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in cross country, nearly took the gold medal in Saturday's 5,000-meter final in what became a back-and-forth battle over the final lap. After taking the lead with 300 meters to go, she ultimately was overtaken with 200 to go and could not muster a response to the move.
She finished in 17:20.66.
Competing for Team USA, Worrel posted a solid 10:48.04 to take third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
