Wolverines Sweep Past Eastern Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 24-ranked University of Michigan volleyball team stayed perfect at home, as it swept past Eastern Michigan (25-22, 25-18, 25-19) on Sunday (Sept. 15) at Crisler Center.
Sophomore Paige Jones led the Wolverines, as she tallied a double-double with a match-high 15 kills to go with 11 digs. Senior Sydney Wetterstrom put down 11 kills, with freshman Jess Robinson had eight terminations on just 11 swings. Senior MacKenzi Welsh handed out 42 assists and recorded 10 digs, while junior Natalie Smith had 12 digs out of the back row.
The Wolverines grabbed the first set, 25-22, taking control late in the set. Michigan put together a .306 attack percentage with 17 kills in the set victory. After the lead changed hands nine times, the Wolverines took control for good at 18-17 and rode that advantage to victory.
U-M took the second set, 25-18, behind four kills each from Jones and Wetterstrom. After it fell behind, 11-10, Michigan called a timeout and responded with a 10-3 run. The Wolverines committed just one attack error after the stoppage and led by as many as seven en route to taking a 2-0 advantage in the match.
The Wolverines scored first and never trailed in a 25-19 third-set win that clinched the match. Michigan hit .314 in the final set, as Jones led the offense with five kills. U-M recorded three blocks in the third, with sophomore Kayla Bair coming off the bench to total a pair of block assists.
Michigan will be back in action Wednesday (Sept. 19), when they travel to NSouth Bend, Indiana, to take on Notre Dame. The match is set for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network.
